Cane Cutters Make Huge Comeback in WinJune 20, 2012 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL) Acadiana Cane Cutters
The Bombers were able to answer with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Brennyn Smith singled to open the inning and then later scored on a Shea Pierce single that tied the game up at 1-1. Corey Toups later tripled in the inning to knock in three runs and then scored on a wild pitch to make the game 5-1 in their favor and end the scoring in that inning.
Pitching took over the game for the next three innings before the next scoring was done. Nau, of the Cane Cutters, scored on a fielder's choice RBI by Ladd Rhodes in the sixth inning to cut the score to 5-2.
The Cane Cutters added another run in the seventh inning by the way of a Mike Barba fielder's choice RBI that scored Alex Marse which cut the deficit to 5-3. The Bombers responded in the bottom of the inning by putting up three runs to make the score 8-3. Chris Florack scored on a passed ball. Toups scored on an error by Isaac Rodriguez and Brandon Wood scored on a passed ball.
The game went to the ninth inning with the Bombers thinking that they had it all wrapped up with a five run lead, but the Cane Cutters were not going down that easy. Gabe Woods led off the inning with a single. Marse followed up with being hit by a pitch. Austin Roussel loaded the bases with a single. Braxton Lee comes up to the plate with the bases loaded and draws a walk which scores one run to cut the deficit to four runs. The next two batters, Barba and Rodriguez, strike out leaving the Cane Cutters with the bases loaded and only one out left to work with and still being down by four runs. Nau comes up and hits a double scoring two runs followed by Andrew Brown hitting a triple that scored two more runs to tie up the game at 8-8 before the Bombers were able to get the final out of the inning. The Cane Cutters were able to shut down the Bombers in the bottom of the inning to extend the game to extra innings.
In the top of the tenth, the Cane Cutters started off with a single by Woods. Marse moved him to second by the way of a sacrifice. Roussel then advanced him to third base by the way the second out to the right side of the field. The Cane Cutters then came up with some more magic with two outs in the inning for the second inning in a row. Lee started it off with a walk that put him on first with Woods still on third. Barba comes up next and gets to first by the way of an error which scores Woods to give the Cane Cutters the lead for the first time in the game since the first inning. They put up three more runs in the inning, all being unearned, by the way of three hits and two errors.
Now the Bombers were hoping for some magic on their end for the bottom of the inning. They were able to put two runs on the board before the Cane Cutters got out of the game with a huge win. The Bombers stranded the two tying runs on base.
Brown and Seal were big contributors of the night for the Cane Cutters, each going 2-3 with 2 RBIs for Brown. He also had the triple in the ninth inning that helped tie the game. Woods and Nau also carried the load for the Cane Cutters offensively. Woods went 3-5 scoring 2 runs and Nau went 2-4 with a double, 1 run scored and 3 RBIs. He also extended his hitting streak to seven games.
Zac Person made his second appearance of the season pitching six innings, giving up five runs on five hits, walking one and striking out eight. He received a no decision. Kelby Langston came in relief pitching two innings, giving up two runs (0 earned) on three hits, walking one and striking out one.
The Cane Cutters upped their record to 7-6 while the Bombers dropped to 11-3. This loss gave the Bombers their first home loss of the season after they had won their first six. They will stay in Bryan, TX to play their second game against the Bombers hoping to pull out another win.
