
Spanish Champions Real Madrid to Face Scottish Title Holders Celtic FC in 2012 World Football Challe

NEW YORK / LOS ANGELES (Tuesday, May 29, 2012) - La Liga champions Real Madrid and Scottish Premier League champions Celtic FC will face-off at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on August 11 as part of the 2012 World Football Challenge. Celtic FC is the latest team to join the tournament, which takes place July 18 through August 11 across North America. To date 11 teams have been announced, including Real Madrid, UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea FC, Serie A champions Juventus FC, and European powerhouses Liverpool FC, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain, along with MLS sides LA Galaxy, D.C. United, Seattle Sounders FC, and Toronto FC.
Tickets for the Philadelphia match go on sale on Monday, June 4 and can be purchased by visiting www.philadelphiaeagles.com, Ticketmaster.com and WorldFootballChallenge.com.
Real Madrid, one of the most decorated teams in soccer, clinched the La Liga title in early May, the latest accolade in the club's storied history, which includes a record nine UEFA Champions League trophies. In 2000, the team was voted the most successful club of the 20th century by FIFA, the international governing body of soccer. Real Madrid will also be visiting the LA Galaxy (Aug. 2 in Carson) and facing Juventus FC (Aug. 5 in Las Vegas) as part of the World Football Challenge.
Celtic FC was the first British soccer club to win the European Cup. The club has won the Scottish League Championship 43 times, most recently in 2012; the Scottish Cup 35 times; and the Scottish League Cup 14 times. The August 11 match will be Celtic's only match in the World Football Challenge.
One of the largest and most successful soccer exhibitions ever staged in North America, the World Football Challenge brings together many of the world's most accomplished and celebrated soccer clubs to play in major sports venues across the region. The event gives soccer fans the unique opportunity to see global superstars play live and experience first-hand the fast-paced, skillful competition that has made soccer the most popular sport in the world. Now in its third year, the World Football Challenge is hosted in partnership by CAA Sports, a division of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the world's leading entertainment and sports agency, and Major League Soccer (MLS), the top-flight professional soccer league in the U.S. and Canada. More than half a million fans attended the event last year and sports fans across North America will once again enjoy a summer of top international matches in 2012.
