Lady Eagles Find Second Win - against Destroyers

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Lady Eagles defeated FC Jacksonville Destroyers 2-0 Saturday night at the Queen's Sports Complex. Samantha Huecker scored first in the 11th minute. In the 33rd minute Kelsey Fenix sealed the deal with the second goal.

Charlotte dominated play getting 23 shots off versus Jacksonville's two.

Charlotte was boosted by goals from Heucker and Kelsey Fenix.

The Lady Eagles got off to a fast start, earning a corner kick in the 3rd minute but Jacksonville goalkeeper Erin Moseley handled it easily.

Seven minutes later in the 11th minute Heucker found the back of the net from 35 yards out to put the Lady Eagles up 1-0.

Gloria Douglas had a nice opportunity to score in the 15th minute but Moseley kept the ball out. Moseley finished the night with 9 saves.

Later Leah Fortune got a good shot of a free kick from just outside the penalty box but missed just wide.

Charlotte would go up 2-0 in the 33rd minute when Fenix found the back of the net after receiving a nice pass from Hannah Gmerek.

In the 42nd minute Jacksonville defender Ally Lee fouled Fortune inside the penalty box. Huecker stepped up to take the penalty kick but Moseley stretched out to save the shot.

The Lady Eagles would take that 2-0 lead into halftime.

Charlotte came out in the second half just as strong as they were in the first half with shots from Macky Wingo and Gloria Douglas in the 50th and 54th minutes. Moseley handled both shots.

Later Gmerek had a great opportunity in the 62nd minute but couldn't find the back of the net.

Jacksonville, who allowed Charlotte to control the game all night, finally got a good look on goal in the 66th minute but the Lady Eagle defense handled the threat.

The Charlotte defense wasn't tested much, during the match but they came up big when it was needed and the Lady Eagle offense controlled possession the rest of the night.

Charlotte would hold on to win 2-0.

Charlotte midfielder Huecker was named the Player of the Game.
