Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release
Albany, GA (May 13, 2012) - For the second straight week, the Louisiana Swashbucklers found themselves in a tie game with less than a minute remaining; and for the second straight week, they came up a little short.
Albany QB Cecil Lester connected with WR Clenton Rafe on a 10 yard TD pass with 22 seconds remaining sending the Bucs to a hard fought 54-47 defeat.
Louisiana fell behind early and trailed 14-0 before the Bucs started clicking. Just before the end of the first quarter, Bucs QB Freddie Harrison connected with WR Jordan Rideaux on a 25 yard TD pass to cut the lead to 14-7. Three minutes later, Harrison found Rideaux again in the end zone to get the Bucs back into the game. Before the half, Albany added a two field goals to lead 20-19 at the midway point.
The second half was a see saw affair, with both teams exchanging leads seven times. With just over a minute remaining in the game and the score deadlocked at 47, QB Harrison threw an interception while trying to make a play for the Bucs, and the Panthers took advantage. Albany scored the game winning TD pass a few plays later.
Louisiana WR Jordan Rideaux added to his impressive season stats while reeling in 11 catches for 104 yards and three touchdowns. Bucs RB Kendrick Perry continued his solid running with 9 rushes for 38 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Swashbucklers DB Brian Harvey Jr. took honors with 11 tackles.
"We're the best 3-5 team I've ever seen" said Bucs Head Coach Darnell Lee. "We are a playoff caliber team, and I fully expect our guys to be there."
The Bucs still hold on to the fourth and final playoff spot in the league, and will likely be on the road for post season play if that stands.
After a lengthy road trip, the Bucs return home to the Lake Charles Civic Center next Saturday night at 7pm to host the Knoxville Nighthawks.
