Shock Opens Training Camp on April 29

TULSA, Okla. (April 27, 2012) - Head Coach Gary Kloppenburg and his coaching staff will make their debut on the court this Sunday April 29 as the Shock open training camp at the University of Tulsa.
"We can't wait to get started," Shock President Steve Swetoha said. "We feel great about the work that we have put in this off-season and are anxious to finally get on the court."
Karima Christmas, Amber Holt, Jennifer Lacy, Ivory Latta, Tiffany Jackson and Kayla Pedersen return from last year's team. Elizabeth Cambage will not be in training camp to start the season as she is preparing for the 2012 Olympics alongside her Australian national teammates. Cambage is expected to return to Tulsa after the Olympics and will make her debut on August 17 against the San Antonio Silver Stars at the BOK Center.
All four shock draftees from the 2012 WNBA Draft - Glory Johnson, Riquna Williams, Vicki Baugh and Lynetta Kizer - will report to camp and look to earn a spot on the final roster.
"We are very excited about the group of players coming to training camp this year," Head Coach Gary Kloppenburg said. "We were able to draft four of the top college players from this past season and have added some excellent players through trades and free agency. We also have some players that did not play last year due to injury that are now healthy and ready to return as players in the WNBA."
Chante Black and Shanna Zolman played for the Shock in 2010 but missed the 2011 season with injuries. Both Black and Zolman will be in camp this Sunday. Chanel Mokango will not be in camp as she suffered a season-ending knee injury while playing overseas.
Newly acquired point guard Temeka Johnson will miss the first week of training due to the extension of her season overseas. She is expected to report to camp on May 7.
"We are looking forward to a high energy, competitive camp and one from which we can emerge with a team that can compete to win every night," Kloppenburg said.
