Toros Hold off Skyforce in Regular Season Finale

Sioux Falls, S.D. - The Austin Toros defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 103-98 Saturday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. Austin took control early and was able to withstand a fourth quarter rally by Sioux Falls in the regular season finale.

Leading 9-8 early in the first quarter, Austin took control and went on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to build a 21-10 lead. Cory Joseph fueled the run for Austin with a driving layup and 3-pointer. After one quarter Austin was dominating Sioux Falls on the boards (17-7) and led 32-19.

Austin continued to build a comfortable lead in the second quarter and led by as many as 18 (46-28) after Brad Wanamaker's driving layup. Sioux Falls captured some momentum in their favor, going on an 11-0 run to trim Austin's lead to 46-39. Austin stabilized the momentum and took a 54-45 lead at halftime. Curtis Withers had 12 of his 17 points in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Austin was able to take their biggest lead of the game (72-52) and appeared ready to run away with the victory. However, Sioux Falls was able to finish the third on a 16-7 run and trailed 79-68 entering the final quarter.

Sioux Falls slowly chipped away at Austin's lead in the fourth quarter and eventually cut the deficit to one (95-94) after Marqus Blakely knocked in a pair of bonus free throws with two minutes left in the game. Austin was able to finish off Sioux Falls by knocking in three of their final four shots of the game and enters the postseason having won 11 of 13.

Flip Murray nearly had a perfect night from the field as he finished with 25 points on 9-of-10 shooting and seven rebounds. Julian Wright also had 25 points to go along with nine rebounds.

Withers had a solid all-around game with 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Anthony Mason, Jr. led Sioux Falls in scoring with 24 points.

Sioux Falls finishes the regular season with a record of 15-35. Austin finishes 33-17 and will select their first-round opponent for the 2012 NBA D-League Playoffs presented by BBVA tomorrow.
