Published on February 24, 2012 under NBA G League (G League) News Release
ORLANDO, Feb. 24, 2011 - Chris Roberts of the Texas Legends was today selected to replace Idaho's Terrico White in the 2012 NBA D-League All-Star Dunk Contest. A key component of the 2012 NBA Dream Factory presented by Haier, the contest will take place at halftime of the 2012 NBA D-League All-Star Game presented by 26 seconds which begins at 2pm ET on Sat., Feb. 25 at NBA Jam Session and will air live on NBA TV. Reno's Andre Emmett, fresh off a GATORADE Call-Up to the New Jersey Nets, has also been selected to participate in the Haier Shooting Stars Competition, which will take place following the conclusion of the All-Star Game.
Roberts, a 6-5, 224-pound forward out of Texas Tech, is averaging 12.9 points and 4.6 rebounds in 20 games for the Legends this season, joins Los Angeles' Zach Andrews, Bakersfield's Osiris Eldridge and Springfield's L.D. Williams in the Contest, which will be judged by a panel of NBA Legends. The two-round competition allows for each competitor to complete two dunks in Round One. The judges will award between six and 10 points for every made dunk and the two players with the highest composite scores after Round One move on to Round Two. The player with the highest composite score of the possible two dunks in Round Two is the winner.
Emmett, who earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Nets on Feb. 14, returns to the NBA D-League in time to compete in the Dream Factory's Shooting Stars competition alongside 11 of his fellow top NBA prospects. The 12 participants will compete in four teams of three in a two-round timed shooting event. This year's competitors include NBA D-League All-Stars Marqus Blakely (Sioux Falls Skyforce), Jerome Dyson (Tulsa 66ers) Keith McLeod (Erie ByaHawks), Elijah Milsap (Los Angeles D-Fenders), Jerry Smith (Springfield Armor) and Edwin Ubiles (Dakota Wizards). Rounding out the field are Osiris Eldridge (Bakersfield Jam), Lawrence Hill (Maine Red Claws), Tyren Johnson (Rio Grande Valley Vipers), Cameron Jones (Fort Wayne Mad Ants) and Leo Lyons (Austin Toros).
The contest features six numbered shooting locations of increasing difficulty, with each team attempting to make all shots in numeric order in the fastest time. Each team will select a specific player rotation to follow throughout the competition. Each shot must be made before the next player begins shooting in succession. Teams have up to two minutes to complete the entire shooting course, and the team that completes all six shots in the least amount of time is the winner. In the case of a tie, a shoot-off will be used to determine the champion.
The fifth-annual NBA Development League Dream Factory presented by Haier will begin at halftime of the All-Star Game with the Dunk Contest, which will also air live on NBA TV. Dream Factory will resume after the game concludes with the Shooting Stars and the 3-Point Competition.
