Mississippi Surge News Release
Invasion of the Insects:The Mississippi Surge hosts the Fayetteville FireAntz tonight in the first visit of the season by Fayetteville.
Records: The Surge is 14-15-3 for 31 points in seventh place.
Fayetteville is 12-21-3 for 27 points in ninth place.
Season Series:This is the third meeting of the season between these two teams who will meet just one more time after tonight, here on March 8th. The Surge has won both previous meetings, both played in Fayetteville. The Surge won a back and forth battle on January 20th, 5-4 and then took a 5-2 decision two days later.
Recent Action: The Surge is coming off a 2-1 win at Pensacola on Friday night. That was the fourth victory in the last five games for the Surge. Fayetteville won last night at the Mississippi RiverKings. Fayetteville took a 5-0 lead and held on for a 5-3 win which ended a five game winning streak of the RiverKings.
Fiesty FireAntz:Both contests last weekend between these two teams were hotly contested affairs. Each game featured an incident of multiple fights, including altercations involving the goaltenders. In the two games, the teams combined for 189 penalty minutes.
Eno's Back: In a roster move today, the Surge has reactivated goaltender Nick Eno, who had been on loan to Gwinnett of the ECHL. With Eno's return, the Surge waived goaltender Corey Milan.
Real Killers: In Friday's win at Pensacola, the Surge killed off all six power plays against them. Making that feat more impressive is the fact the Surge did not have a power play opportunity of its own, the entire game.
Any Other Teams?: Tonight's game ends a stretch of five straight games, the Surge has played against either Fayetteville (three times), or Pensacola (two times).
Next Up: The Surge will head to the northern part of the state to take on the Mississippi RiverKings on Tuesday. Fayetteville returns home to host Pensacola on Thursday. The next home game for the Surge will also be Thursday night, against Columbus.
