Published on January 10, 2012 under SPHL (SPHL) News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 10, 2012) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Mike Brown of the Fayetteville FireAntz is the SBK Player of the Week for January 2-8.

Brown went 2-0 with a 2.50 goals against average and a save percentage of .935 as the FireAntz won two of three games last week.

The Baldwinsville, New York native made 39 saves in a 5-4 win over the Mississippi RiverKings on Friday before coming back on Sunday to defeat league-leading Augusta 5-1. Against the RiverHawks, Brown stopped 33 of 34 shots, including 13 in the third period alone, as Augusta went 0-for-10 on the power play.

Brown, who was selected by the Boston Bruins in the fifth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft (153rd overall), came to the FireAntz in a November 26 trade with Louisiana and currently ranks third in the SPHL with nine wins. Brown was also named SBK Player of the Week for October 31-November 6 while with the IceGators. Last season, Brown's 54 saves in a shutout effort (4-0 over Columbus on March 18, 2011) was the second-highest total in SPHL history, just two shy of the record of 56 set by Jacksonville's A.J. Bucchino in a 4-0 win over Columbus on November 15, 2007.
