Columbus' Derek Pallardy Named SBK Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 3, 2012) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Derek Pallardy of the Columbus Cottonmouths is the SBK Player of the Week for December 26-January 1.

In four games last week, Pallardy scored three goals, including two game-winners, added four assists and was +7 as the Cottonmouths picked up seven of eight points to maintain third place in the SPHL standings.

On Monday, Pallardy scored one goal and assisted on two others as the Cottonmouths defeated Fayetteville 6-3 in the first game of a home-and-home series. On Tuesday, the Chesterfield, MO native recorded his second straight one-goal, two-assist outing as his goal just 1:54 into the first period proved to be the game-winner in a 3-0 defeat of the FireAntz. After being held scoreless in a 3-2 overtime loss to Knoxville on Friday, Pallardy saved his best for last on Saturday, scoring an unassisted overtime goal to give Columbus a 4-3 win over Augusta.

Now in his fourth professional season, Pallardy joined the Snakes after spending the last two seasons with the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League where he collected 44 points in 118 games. Prior to that he spent the 2008-09 season with the Knoxville Ice Bears recording 11 points in 40 regular season games. From 2004-08, Pallardy attended Merrimack College where he was selected team captain his senior year and was twice named to Hockey East's All-Academic Team, graduating from the college with honors, majoring in English and minoring in philosophy.
