Stays in the hospital at holiday time can be disappointing, but the Mississippi Surge did its part to spread Christmas cheer Wednesday to area hospital patients.

Surge players toured the facilities at Memorial Hospital and Garden Park Medical Center distributing teddy bears and stuffed animals to patients.

The bears were some of the estimated 1,400 collected during the Surge game on Saturday December 17th. Fans tossed the bears onto the ice when the Surge scored the first goal of the game.

"We know it's tough to be in the hospital and away from your family during the holidays. So we're glad to try to make things a little brighter by handing out the bears," Surge defenseman Glen Cacaro said.

The next game for the Surge is Friday, December 23rd against the Huntsville Havoc at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. The holiday gift giving from the Surge will continue with a Christmas dream date package which includes two tickets to a future game, a night stay for two at Treasure Bay Casino and Hotel, dinner for two at CQ fine dining restaurant at Treasure Bay, and five hours of limo service from Golden Gulf Limo.
