Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN.--- As they move closer with each passing day to their playing residence in the exciting all-new Downtown Evansville Arena, the Evansville IceMen of the Central Hockey League continue to increase the pace of roster construction for the 2011-12 CHL pro hockey season. Yet another positive stride forward was realized in this direction today.

On this date, the IceMen General Manager / Coach Rich Kromm has announced that stalwart left wing MARK CODY has assented to contract terms and signed a new one-year deal with the club for the upcoming 2011-12 CHL pro hockey season. Adhering to club policy, terms of the pact were not disclosed.

CODY, 29, will be ushering-in his second full season clad in the Evansville coat of arms and his sixth pro season overall. The always-energized 6-1, 205lb left-hand shooting forward favorably emerged as one of the IceMen's more popular on-ice performers in 2010-11. Through his always fearless, feisty and frisky on-ice persona, he became a true crowd-pleasing lightning rod for the growing Evansville hockey following faithful. A true "Ironman," being one of only two IceMen players to be at the starting gate for the team's full 66-games' regular season schedule, he registered a team-high 161-PIM while contributing 17-points on 6-goals, 11-assists. Included in Cody's overall season output were 1-PPG, 1-PPA and 1-FG.

His total commitment on the ice to the team through his all-out, rugged, ruffian, rock-ribbed style of play was also clearly evident off the ice in the form of his exemplary community and civic-minded pride and spirit. Those intangible, invaluable assets were recognized at season's end when Cody was the lone IceMen player to be the recipient of two team awards; the Mr. Hustle Award as well as the IceMen Community Service Award.

GM / Coach Kromm is elated to have his fiery forward back in the Evansville fold for the franchise move into the new downtown arena. "We are delighted to have Mark signed and set for the new season in our new arena. He provides a strong physical presence in our lineup. Mark always plays hard, game in and game out and he always finishes his checks. Mark knows his role and performs it very well. His type of grinding role is an important ingredient in the overall success of our club. We are excited to have Mark back with us."

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Cody originally arrived on the Evansville pro hockey scene as one of nine Muskegon Lumberjacks players signed by the IceMen following the former team's 2009-10 IHL Regular Season Huber Trophy Championship and in conjunction with the latter club's elevation to the AA CHL.

In 51-games in 2009-10 with Muskegon, he collected 10-points in 51-games on 3-goals, 7-assists along with 120-PIM and solid +5 rating.

Last season, actually was Cody's second appearance in the CHL, having seen previous service in 2007-08 with the Texas Brahmas; 20(1-0-1) 60-PIM.

Prior to the inception of his pro career, he played junior `A' hockey in his native Maritime Provinces with both Halifax and Truro of the MJAHL before taking the Canadian college path to St. Thomas U. where he performed his act for two years. In 2001-02 with Halifax, he amassed a mammoth 359-PIM in 48-games while engineering 37-points on 14-goals, 23-assists. The following season, combined with Halifax and Truro, he accrued 273-PIM in 38-outings. In total in junior `A' Cody amassed 632-PIM in 86-games spanning three seasons.
