SAN JOSE, CA - San Jose Giants center fielder and leadoff hitter Gary Brown was named the California League Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on May 8. Brown hit .433 (13-for-30) with five doubles, one home run, four runs scored, two stolen bases and 12 RBI last week.
The No. 3 prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization according to Baseball America, Brown already has 11 multi-hit games in his first full-length professional season while he continues to develop his skills with the San Jose Giants. He went 5-for-7 on Friday, with three doubles while driving in six RBI. It was the fourth time out of a five-game stretch in which Brown knocked in at least one run. Brown also went 3-for-4 with another double Saturday night. He finished the week going 1-for-3 on Sunday, with a walk, stolen base and run scored.
The Giants speedster enters the new week among the top of many offensive California League categories. Brown is tied for 10th in runs (24) and batting average (.357). He is ninth in on base percentage (.438), and tied for fourth in hits (45). Brown is tied for third in RBI (27) and is second in stolen bases (19).
Brown is the first California League Player of the Week for the San Jose Giants during the current 2011 season. In the 2010 season, the Giants had five winners:

The San Jose Giants return home for a seven-game homestand beginning tonight, May 10 at 7:00 PM.
