Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. ‚¬"Ports reliever Ryan Doolittle has been red hot thus far this season and Minor League Baseball is taking notice, naming him the first California League Pitcher of the Week for the 2011 season.

Doolittle has made two appearances for the Ports, each time pitching 5.0 scoreless innings to record the win for the Ports. Doolittle made his first appearance of the season in Modesto on April 10th , filling in for scheduled starter Gary Daley Jr. Doolittle allowed just two hits in the contest and recorded four strikeouts as the Ports squeezed out a 2-1 win over the Nuts.

Doolittle kept the Nuts scoreless again when he took the mound at home on April 15. Doolittle entered the game in the top of the sixth with the game tied 1-1. Doolittle had Modesto ‚¬â„¢s number, striking out seven of the 18 batters faced, and allowed just three hits in the extra inning contest. Doolittle has yet to give up a run in 2011.

‚¬Å“Ryan had a great week and pitched two excellent ball games, ‚¬Â Ports pitching coach Craig Lefferts said of the honor. ‚¬Å“He really showed good command. He was placing the ball well and had good movement. So congratulations to Ryan Doolittle. ‚¬Â

Doolittle is not unfamiliar with the honor of being named Pitcher of the Week, having earned the title last season while with Short Season affiliate, the Vancouver Canadians. Doolittle was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 26th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. The New Jersey native split time in 2010 with the Vancouver Canadians (Short Season A) and the Kane County Cougars (Low A), earning the distinction of Northwest League Pitcher of the week for the week of July 6, 2010. In Vancouver, Doolittle posted a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA.

Stockton Ports fans can check out the California League ‚¬â„¢s 2011 inaugural Pitcher of the Week all season long as he pitches in to help bring the Ports a victory from the bullpen at Banner Island Ballpark.
