FC Tampa Bay Re-Signs Takuya Yamada

TAMPA, Fla. - (December 27, 2010) - FC Tampa Bay announces the re-signing of midfielder Takuya Yamada. Yamada, who was under a one-year contract for the 2010 season, signed a one-year deal for 2011 with a one-year club option for 2012.

"We look forward to having Yama back as part of this organization for the next couple of years and hopefully even after his playing career," said FC Tampa Bay Owner and President Andrew Nestor.

Yamada played in 29 of the 30 matches, including 25 starts, with two assists in the 2010 season. Yamada also represented FC Tampa Bay as captain in several matches.

Yamada previously played at Sagan Tosu in the Japan Professional Football League (J-League) during the 2009 season, where he had 43 appearances and six goals.

Yamada began his professional soccer career in the J. League with Tokyo Verdy (formerly Verdy Kawasaki) in 1997, making 235 appearances scoring 22 goals over eight years. He served as team captain for three years and helped lead Tokyo Verdy to the 2005 J. League Xerox Super Cup title and the 2004 J. League Emperor's Cup championship.

Yamada also has four caps with the Japanese National Team between 2003 and 2004, including the 2004 Asian Cup in Beijing, where Japan defeated China 3-1.
