Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - Cody Decker went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a two-run home run and two runs scored as Lake Elsinore won a see-saw battle over Lancaster 9-8 at Clear Channel Stadium Thursday. The JetHawks were swept by the Storm in the three-game series and lost 20 of the 27 meetings between the two teams in the season series.
For the third straight night, Lancaster got on the scoreboard first in with a run in the opening frame. Jose Altuve smacked a solo home run off Storm starter Adam Schrader.
But Lake Elsinore immediately answered in the top of the second. The Storm got three runs off JetHawks starter Leandro Cespedes and tacked on three more runs in the third to chase Cespedes from the contest.
Trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Lancaster rallied to score five runs. David Flores ripped a two-run single and Mark Ori followed with a three-run homer that sailed over the right field wall and knotted the score at 6-6.
After the two teams traded runs in the fifth, Lake Elsinore scored twice off Lancaster reliever Kyle Godfrey (3-5) in the top of the seventh to take a 9-7 advantage.
The JetHawks got a run in the bottom of the frame when Altuve scored from third on an RBI groundout by Lee Cruz.
But Lake Elsinore turned to All-Star closer Brad Brach, who tossed an inning and 2/3 of scoreless relief to earn his league-leading 41st save of the season. Jon Berger (1-2) earned the win in relief for Lake Elsinore.
With the win, Lake Elsinore improved to 34-32 in the second half and 80-56 overall. The JetHawks dropped to 30-36 in the second half and 53-83 overall
