Skyforce to Hold Open Tryouts

Sioux Falls, S.D. (August 20, 2010) - The Sioux Falls Skyforce announced today that the team will hold open tryouts for the 2010-11 season on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16-17 at Family Wellness located at 8701 W. 32nd St. in Sioux Falls, S.D. The registration fee includes a ticket to the Minnesota Timberwolves-Milwaukee Bucks preseason game on Sunday, Oct. 17 at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Open tryouts offer local athletes an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of NBA Development League coaches while they compete to earn a position in the team's official training camp. Training camp is scheduled to begin in early November.
Former North Dakota State standout Mike Nelson made the opening night roster last season after earning a training camp invite based on his strong performance at open tryouts. He went on to average 6.2 points while shooting 42.6 percent from the 3-point line in 34 games (two starts).
Registration begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the first session will run from 2-6 p.m. The tryouts will conclude with one session on Sunday from 11-2 p.m.
Applicants must be eligible to play in the NBA D-League and are required to pre-register by submitting the official registration, release, disclosure and background check forms, along with a $130 nonrefundable fee. Tryout forms are available online (skyforceonline.com) or at the Skyforce office (2131 S. Minnesota Ave.). Completed forms and entry fee must be submitted to the Skyforce office no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8 to secure a spot in the tryout camp. Participants who register after the deadline or the first day of the tryout will be charged $150 and will not be guaranteed a ticket to the Wolves-Bucks game. Tryout attendees can contact the Fairfield Inn at (605) 361-2211 to reserve a hotel room at a discounted rate.
Season tickets and 12-ticket flex packs for the 2010-11 season are on sale. Discounts and benefits are also available for groups of 10 or more. Single game tickets will go on sale in early November.
