Greeneville Astros News Release
GREENEVILLE, TN - For the sixth consecutive night, the difference in the final score for the Greeneville Astros was just one run. The Astros are 3-3 in those games after defeating the Bristol Sox 5-4 on Friday night.
After a slow start, the Astros got solo homeruns from Telvin Nash in the fifth inning and Jonathan Merritt in the sixth inning. Nash's homer was his eighth of the year and put him into a three-way tie with Chris Wallace and Marcus Nidiffer for the team lead. Meanwhile, Merritt's homer was his second of the season.
The 2-0 lead did not last for the Astros as they always seem to keep the game interesting. In the top of the seventh, Bristol loaded the bases with no outs. Then, Drew Lee ripped a line drive double to right field to bring home three runs and give Bristol the lead. A RBI single to center field by Rangel Ravelo scored Lee and suddenly pushed the Sox lead to 4-2.
Down but not out, Greeneville came back in the bottom of the inning. With two outs and runners at first and second, Ryan Humphrey connected on a hard hit fly ball to right field that resulted in a two-run triple to tie the game.
The next batter, Jonathan Merritt, hit a ground ball to Bristol shortstop Drew Lee, but he had trouble fielding the ball which allowed Humphrey to come home for the winning run as Merritt beat the eventual throw to first.
Astros first-rounder Mike Foltynewicz started the game for Greeneville, pitched four innings, gave up four hits, and had four strikeouts.
Philip Rorabaugh (1-1) entered the game in the seventh inning, pitched 1.2 innings, gave up two hits, and picked up the win.
The Astros finish their three-game series with the Bristol Sox on Saturday night. Game time is scheduled for 6:00pm. There will be an Astros water bottle giveaway as fans enter the gates. It will also be Teacher Appreciation Night presented by Tennessee Education Lottery. All teachers get half-priced admission with a valid school ID.
