Erie BayHawks News Release
The Erie BayHawks have signed head coach John Treloar to a new two-year contract carrying him through the 2011-12 season.
"We're thrilled to have John committed to continuing what we started in our first two seasons - and that's putting a competitive team on the floor and developing NBA-caliber talent as he and Coach McDonald have accomplished," said BayHawks majority owner Steve Demetriou.
"John is a first-class person who is highly respected throughout the D-League and the NBA. He's a proven winner and is committed to our goal of competing every year for a D-League championship," Demetriou added.
"I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of a first-class organization, one that is committed to providing the fans in Erie with great entertainment value and the highest level of basketball outside of the NBA," said Treloar.
"I recall when I first met Steve that he wanted someone who wouldn't just take the job and begin looking for his next job. I'm committed to the long-term vision of this organization and feel that with the business staff we have, the support of a dedicated ownership group, and the great fans we have, we are on the road to achieving great things," he added.
Named as the team's first head coach in June, 2008, Treloar led the BayHawks to an overall record of 48-52, including a 27-23 mark and playoff berth in the inaugural season, followed by a 21-29 finish last year.
Prior to joining the BayHawks Treloar was an assistant coach at Louisiana State University. He also served on the coaching staff of Bob Knight at Indiana University and coached in the Continental Basketball Association and internationally in Germany and Venezuela.
Treloar has coached numerous players who have gone on to have successful NBA careers including Glen Davis, Brandon Bass, Tyrus Thomas, Marcus Thornton, Anthony Randolph, Garret Temple, Kevin Ollie, and others.
Originally from Clinton, Mississippi, Treloar earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Belhaven College (1978) and a master's degree in the area of behavioral studies from the University of Alabama (1982). He and his wife Debra reside in Millcreek with their two children, Taylor and Trey.
