As the NBA D-League enters its sixth season in its current form, a new legendary era begins. The D-League, along with the NBA, announced affiliations between teams in the two leagues for the 2010-2011 season Tuesday, and the Texas Legends and the Dallas Mavericks will begin what many expect to be an excellent relationship.

The Mavericks already have a great history with NBA D-League products, as current Mavs JJ Barea and Matt Carroll both played in the NBA D-League. "Making dreams come true and making the Mavericks better is what we're all about," Texas Legends Owner and Mavericks General Manager Donnie Nelson commented. "We couldn't be prouder to represent the Dallas Mavericks."

In 2005 the NBA and the D-League began directly affiliating teams, and great success has followed the change.

"The direct affiliation between NBA and NBA D-League teams continues to benefit players, coaches and basketball fans," NBA D-League President Dan Reed said in the announcement. "Nearly one-third of all NBA Draft picks have played for their NBA D-League affiliate since the program's inception, and these affiliate relationships are a key reason why 20 percent of all NBA players have D-League playing experience."

The affiliation between the Legends and Mavs means the Mavs can designate first and second-year players to play for the Legends. The Mavs may also "call up" players on the Legends who catch their eye.
