Richard Trottier Named Director of Officiating

BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, June 17, 2010 - The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, announced today the hiring of Richard Trottier as Director of Officiating.

"I am thrilled that Richard Trottier has accepted to join our organization. He will be an important asset to the QMJHL due to his extensive knowledge and experience," commented the Commissioner.

Richard Trottier worked 380 games over twelve seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, including 86 games in the playoffs and 9 in the President Cup final. He has three Memorial Cup tournaments to his credit: 1979 in Trois-Rivières as a linesman, 1985 in Drummondville as a referee and 1988 in Chicoutimi also as a referee.

Following his major junior career, he spent 13 seasons in the NHL, refereeing 550 regular season games as well as 10 playoff contests. Furthermore, he worked the 2001 NHL All-Star game in Denver, Colorado.

"I am extremely happy to be back in the field of officiating," commented Richard Trottier. "It is an important challenge which I am ready to undertake. I would like to thank the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for the confidence it is showing me."

Of note, on April 1st, 2009, Richard Trottier was inducted into the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Hall of Fame alongside Lucien Deblois, Marc Fortier and Jean Gagnon.
