Slam cruise to 123-90 road victory against Highflyers

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Bellingham Slam routed the Yamhill Highflyers, 123-90, in an International Basketball league divisional matchup at the Ted Wilson Arena in McMinnville on Friday ngiht.

After a mostly even first quarter, the Slam outscored the Highflyers 29-19 in the second quarter to lead 61-48 at halftime.

Yamhill closed the gap to ten points early in the third quarter, but Bellingham responded with eight straight points to go up 73-55 with 7:50 left in the period.

The Highflyers never seriously threatened in the fourth quarter, as the Slam rattled off 13 straight points to start the frame.

Jacob Stevenson led the Slam with 36 points, while Ike Ohanson padded his position as the IBL's top rebounder by collecting 15 boards. Paul Hafford also had a fine night with 23 points and seven rebounds.

Nate Bowie led four Yamhill players in double figures with 23 points to go along with nine assists.

The Slam will stay overnight in Portland as they next face the Vancouver Volcanoes in another important divisional game on Saturday. A 7 p.m. tip-off is set for Clark College.
