Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, are pleased to announce that they have extended the contract of General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison.
Morrison had one year remaining on the three-year deal he signed on May 29, 2008. This extension will keep him on the Salmon Kings' bench through the 2011-12 season.
"Under Mark's leadership the Salmon Kings' organization has grown and evolved," said Dave Dakers, President of the Victoria Salmon Kings. "We are very confident in Mark's ability to lead our organization into the future by continuing to aggressively pursue success."
The British Columbia native just concluded his third full season as head coach of the Salmon Kings, and has been the team's general manager for the last two seasons. He is the organization's all-time leader in wins and games coached with a record of 141-97-11-12. He led Victoria to the West Division regular season title during the 2007-08 season.
Morrison has taken Victoria to the playoffs in each of his four seasons behind the bench with the team, while advancing to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs on two different occasions. He is the only head coach in the organization's history to guide the team into the playoffs.
On December 28th, 2006 Morrison took over the reigns of the Salmon Kings and led them to a 27-15-3 finish and the team's first ever ECHL playoff berth. He originally began with the Salmon Kings in 2005-06 as an assistant coach. The former Victoria Cougar star played 20 professional seasons including parts of two seasons in the NHL with the New York Rangers.
"My goal is to bring a Kelly Cup championship to Victoria," Morrison said. "I believe the combination of our ownership, management and staff provide the foundation upon which this goal can be accomplished.
"The mission we undertake year-in-and-year-out is to ice a championship caliber team," Morrison continued. "Going forward we will make changes that will add talent and grit to our roster. This will allow us to be a better hockey team then we have been in the past, and give us the opportunity to earn the success we desire."
Salmon Kings season tickets for the 2010-11 season are now available by calling 250-220-7889.
