Real Salt Lake News Release

SANDY, Utah (Thursday, May 27, 2010) - Real Salt Lake is proud to welcome the Nothing but Nets Buzz Tour campaign for malaria awareness as part of the Utah side's contest this Saturday, May 29, against the Kansas City Wizards at Rio Tinto Stadium, presented by Xinsurance (7:00 p.m. MT kickoff).

The Nothing But Nets Buzz Tour country-wide bus tour is driving toward the global goal of ending malaria deaths by 2015 with interactive events for local residents to learn more about malaria prevention. The eco-friendly bus (running on waste vegetable oil and biodiesel) will roll into Rio Tinto Stadium this Saturday as part of the popular pre-game Carnival Real festival beginning at 5:00 p.m., with games and giveaways for kids and adults. Accompanying the Buzz Tour on its Sandy stop will be Nothing But Nets' spokesperson Shannon Raybold, who will be available to media outlets for interviews during Saturday's visit to Rio Tinto Stadium.

In conjunction with the Buzz Tour's impending visit this weekend, Real Salt Lake's Nothing but Nets spokesmen Jean Alexandre and Robbie Russell will be available to speak to their involvement with the malaria awareness program tomorrow, Friday, May 28, following the team's practice at Rio Tinto Stadium at approximately 12:00 p.m. Media wanting to ensure interview availability with the RSL duo can RSVP with John Koluder in the RSL Communications Department at 801-727-2716 or jkoluder@RealSaltLake.com.

The Buzz Tour is visiting partners and supporters in more than 20 cities and working with Major League Soccer and its clubs to host in-stadium events to raise awareness about malaria in the lead up to the 2010 World Cup, which will be played in Africa for the first time. Ninety percent of malaria deaths occur in Africa, where a child dies every 30 seconds from a malaria infection. To leverage the enthusiasm around the World Cup, the UN Foundation and its Nothing But Nets campaign are teaming up with soccer stars and other malaria-focused organizations for a one-year campaign called United Against Malaria.
