FRISCO - Inspired by Lone Star heroes past and present, the Texas Legends' team logo includes something else familiar - a Mavericks color scheme.
The National Basketball Development League team decided on a logo that features a bold star that appears to be rising up and getting bigger. The resulting effect is a longhorn-like look to the logo, which is made of blue, silver, black and white.
The logo was designed by Torch Creative, a Dallas-based design and graphics company which also did the logo for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game at Cowboys Stadium in February.
"The logo is a T for Texas," said Donnie Nelson, the Mavericks' president of operations. "If you look closely, you'll see a shooting star and a longhorn superimposed in the artwork.
"The Legends' logo is a tribute to the men and women who've made the Lone Star State great. We will celebrate Texas heroes at every one of our games - from the men and women in uniform who defend our freedoms daily to teachers and students, any and all who have made a difference."
The Legends will begin play at Frisco's Dr Pepper Arena this fall. They will serve as the NBA Development League feeder team for the Mavericks and will be coached by Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman.
Nelson and Evan Wyly are co-owners of the team.
"Working with the co-founders of Torch Creative, Brad Bishop and Mike Thurman, and other friends has been one of the most fun aspects of building our new brand. It's a thrill to team with such an imaginative group through the process of brainstorming concepts to sketches and ultimately to the final wordmark and logo artwork," Wyly commented.
