'USL Breakaway' Returns to Fox Soccer Channel

May 14, 2010 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release

TAMPA, FL - "USL Breakaway," the popular 30-minute magazine show highlighting the teams and personalities throughout United Soccer Leagues, returns for its fifth consecutive season on FOX Soccer Channel. Produced by Cultural Videos and Sports Communications Inc., "USL Breakaway" will include eight episodes in 2010 with the first episode airing at 6 p.m. ET tonight (Friday, May 14) on FSC.

FSC will once again televise the championship games for USL's senior leagues, starting with the W-League title game on July 31 from Santa Clarita, California. FSC will also televise the championship games for the Premier Development League (August 7, site TBD) and the USL Second Division (August 28, site TBD). 2010 Marks the ninth year FSC has televised USL programming.

"We're pleased to continue our long and successful relationship with FOX Soccer Channel," USL President Tim Holt said. "The exposure received by the teams in each of our vertically-integrated youth, amateur and professional leagues through 'USL Breakaway' is invaluable, and having the championship games televised live only increases the excitement surrounding those events."

This week's debut episode of "USL Breakaway" checks in with Pablo Campos of Real Salt Lake, who played collegiately at Fresno Pacific University but ultimately got noticed while playing for the Fresno Fuego of the USL Premier Development League. Campos was named PDL MVP in his debut season in 2007 after leading the league in goals, and chose to remain in college and play for Fresno once again in 2008 despite MLS offers.

Also featured this week is the USL Super-20 League, the only U20 men's and women's North American amateur league, as well as the W-League's Pali Blues, who are two-time defending champions and haven't lost a game in their two W-League seasons. Finally, "USL Breakaway" catches up with Teal Bunbury, the former Rochester Thunder (PDL) and Chicago Fire Premier (Super-20) star who was selected fourth overall in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by the Kansas City Wizards.

The second episode of "USL Breakaway" is scheduled to debut on Sunday, May 23 at 4 p.m., and will look at first-year PDL side the Dayton Dutch Lions and Steve Nicol, head coach of the New England Revolution and a former Liverpool and USL First Division player.
