Portland Pirates News Release

Portland Pirates forwards Felix Schutz and Philip Gogulla were among the 25 players named to the German team for the 2010 IIHF World Hockey Championships starting Friday in Germany.

The German Team was announced their roster following a 4-1 exhibition loss to Team Canada yesterday.

Schutz, selected by the Buffalo Sabres 117th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, recently finished his second season with Pirates collecting 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 67 games. The Tournament represents the 22 year-old's first opportunity to play in the World Championships.

Gogulla's rookie AHL season featured 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points in 76 games. The 22 year-old, who will represent Germany for a fourth straight time at the World Championships, was taken by the Sabres 48th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Both players have seen exhibition action with the German National Team. Schutz has played two games without registering a point while Gogulla, who joined the team after the Sabres were eliminated from the post season, was held pointless in one Tournament tune-up.

Germany opens the 16-team event Friday against Team USA, featuring former Pirates member Tim Kennedy.
