May 4, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Florida Tuskers News Release
ORLANDO, FL - Tuesday, May 4, 2010 - The Florida Tuskers will hold open tryouts in May and June as Head Coach Jay Gruden and his coaching staff continues to evaluate the region's player talent pool ahead of the 2010 season.
The tryouts offer free agents who believe they have the ability to play high-quality professional football an opportunity to make a UFL roster with the Tuskers. Players can pre-register online at www.ufl-football.com.
Each tryout camp will last approximately four hours. Athletes will be timed in the 40-yard dash and 20-yard short shuttle and will then participate in a series of individual and team drills. The tryouts are for all positions, including kickers and punters.
"We know that Miami and Florida in general is a great spot for talent and speed and it is well documented that there are players with great ability here," said coach Gruden. "Some players will have slipped through the cracks and not had an opportunity in life and in football to show what they can do, so we are giving them that opportunity. I am very excited by these tryouts.
"We found four or five players from the Orlando tryouts last year that we had not known of and they played a part in our success and our unbeaten regular season record last season. I am expecting great things from the players who try out in Orlando."
The Tuskers will welcome prospective players to Nova Southeastern University in Miami on Saturday, May 8 and to the team's Florida Citrus Bowl home field on Saturday, May 15. The neighboring state of Georgia will host a Tuskers tryout on Saturday, June 27 at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, GA.
