BILOXI, MS - The Huntsville Havoc took Game One of the President's Cup Finals by the score of 3-2 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Wednesday evening.
Jeff Grant got Mississippi out to a 1-0 lead just 10 seconds into the game when Chris Greene fed him a pass in the low slot and he fired it past the glove of Huntsville goaltender Dan McWhinney.
The Havoc got on the board early in the second, when Jeff Winchester found the back of the net on the power play at 4:59. Matthew Larke restored the Surge lead at 11:02 of the second, tapping home a cross-ice feed from Chris Greene to make it 2-1. Just 19 seconds later, Chris Myers of the Havoc capitalized on a coverage gaffe in the Surge end and backhanded a loose puck into the Surge net to tie the game at two apiece. Travis Kauffeldt's power-play marker at the 16:00 mark of the second stood as the game winner.
Bill Zaniboni made 24 saves in the loss, and the Surge were 0-for-7 on the power play.
