
Muskegon Tops Mallards 5-2

MUSKEGON, Mich. (March 21, 2010) - John DiPace scored two power play goals and Robin Bouchard broke the career minor league goal scoring record as the Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, fell to the host Muskegon Lumberjacks 5-2 Sunday.
The Lumberjacks grabbed control by scoring three special teams goals in the second period. Damien Surma's shorthanded breakaway goal snapped a 1-1 tie at 5:29 of the second. At 7:49 the Lumberjacks were on the power play when DiPace's tip in stretched the lead to 3-1. DiPace would strike again on the man advantage from the slot with just 54 seconds left in the period.
By the time the second period Muskegon onslaught kicked in Bouchard had already written his name in the record book by tipping home Nick Schneider's drive from the blue line at 14:10 of the first period for the first goal of the night and the six hundred eighty-third of Bouchard's career.
The Mallards evened the scored when Chris Lipsett swept the puck in from the doorstep with just under two minutes left in the first, but four straight goals from the 'Jacks would follow, a run the was capped off at 4:34 of the third period when Bobby Bolt roofed the puck in under the crossbar to make it 5-1.
The Mallards would have reason to cheer late in regulation while on the power play when Marc Rechlicz tipped in the first goal of his career.
The Mallards return to action next Saturday night in Muskegon. The Mallards next play at home on Sunday, March 28 at 4:05 p.m. against the Dayton Gems. March 28 is another Mallards Family Skate Night- fans can bring their skates and join the Mallards on the ice after the game.
