Charleston, SC. Major League Soccer's DC United won the 2010 Carolina Challenge Cup with a hard-fought 2-0 win versus the Charleston Battery Saturday night at Blackbaud Stadium in front of 5,036. Jaime Moreno scored twice in the first half to lead United to victory; the veteran Bolivian striker has been in exceptional form during the tournament scoring all five of DC United's goals.

DC had an early chance in the 2nd minute from a corner but defender Rodney Wallace headed just over the bar.

Charleston responded quickly and came close a minute later after forward Tom Heinemann went through on goal. Heinemann was nudged off-balance at the last moment and saw his effort sail high.

The Battery's best chance of the half came in the 11th minute when veteran midfielder Stephen Armstrong broke into the left side of the box but his driven shot rose over the bar.

DC United took the lead in the 33rd minute as Jaime Moreno sent a glancing header in from a corner.

United doubled their advantage in stoppage time at the end of the half as Santino Quaranta was hauled down in the penalty-area. Moreno chipped a shot down the middle after sending Battery goalkeeper Reece Crowther the wrong way.

The Battery threw everything forward after the break and came close to pulling a goal back in the 47th minute. Jamaican defender O'Brian Woodbine received the ball in space on the right side of box but he pulled his shot just wide of the far post.

In the 72nd minute the Battery were denied by the woodwork as substitute forward Levi Coleman followed up a rebounded Tom Heinemann strike. Coleman drove the ball at the goal but his shot cannoned back of the cross-bar.

Ten minutes later Coleman threatened again after finding space on the right side. He ran onto the through ball but his shot from a wide angle crossed the face of the goal and missed wide left.
