Boudreau's Hat Trick Wards Off Snakes

BILOXI, MS - Tom Boudreau netted his second hat trick of the season as the Mississippi Surge defeated the Columbus Cottonmouths 4-2 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

Tom Boudreau got the Surge on the board, taking a feed from Chris Ferazzoli and blasting it through the legs of Columbus goalie Ian Vigier for a power-play goal at 7:36 of the first period.

Columbus evened the score at one-all when Jesse Cole's shot from the left wing eluded Mississippi's Bill Zaniboni at 1:38 of the second frame. Tom Boudreau's second goal of the game restored Mississippi's lead, as Boudreau redirected Jeff Bieber's shot from the point past Vigier for a power-play goal at 9:04 of the second. Stephen Schofield padded the lead for the Surge, popping home the rebound of Glenn Cacaro's shot at 12:40, giving Mississippi a 3-1 lead.

Jesse Cole drew Columbus within one, tapping in the rebound of a shot from Tyler Johnson at 5:17. Mississippi held fast through the remainder of the third period until Tom Boudreau put the game on ice with an empty-net goal to complete his hat trick at 18:57 of the third.

Bill Zaniboni made 21 saves to earn the win, and the Surge were 2-for-9 on the power play.
