South Carolina's Connelly Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Rookie Shane Connelly of the South Carolina Stingrays is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 15-21.

The 22 year old stopped all 50 shots he faced for the week to earn three straight shutouts and a record of 3-0-0 with a goals-against average of 0.00 and a save percentage of 1.000 in a 4-0 win against Gwinnett on Feb. 20 and back-to-back 6-0 victories against Toledo on Feb. 21 and 22.

The three consecutive shutouts ties an ECHL record last accomplished by Sebastien Laplante of the Pee Dee Pride during the 2004-05 season. Connelly currently has a shutout streak of 195 minutes and 21 seconds. He needs 40 minutes and 43 seconds to break the record set by Darryl Paquette of Hampton Roads in 1997 for longest shutout sequence with 236 minutes and 3 seconds.

Since being acquired by the Stingrays on Dec. 30, 2009, Connelly has posted a record of 11-4-4 with a goals-against average of 2.60 and a save percentage of.909 in 20 appearances and leads the league with four shutouts. He has an overall mark of 14-11-6, a 3.16 goals-against average and a.894 save percentage in 34 appearances this season for Johnstown and South Carolina.

The Cheltenham, Pa. native played four seasons for the University of Wisconsin going 41-36-11 with eight shutouts, a 2.39 goals-against average, a.931 save percentage and an assist in 90 games. He saw action in 74 regular season and 13 playoff games with Chicago of the United States Hockey League from 2003-05 and registered a 34-30-4 record with four shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.75 and a.914 save percentage.

Runners Up: Chris Beckford-Tseu, Florida (2-0-1, 2.85 GAA,.918 save pct.) and Curtis Darling, Ontario (3-0-0, 2.92 GAA,.910 save pct.).
