Fayetteville's Sich Named Sher-Wood Player Of The Week

CHARLOTTE, NC (February 2, 2009) - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Rob Sich of the Fayetteville FireAntz is the Sher-Wood SPHL Player of the Week for February 15-21.

Sich, who set a new SPHL record for goals in a season Saturday, led Fayetteville to a 2-0 week as the FireAntz extended their winning streak to five games.

The LaSalle, Ontario native tied his own record of 46 goals in a season Friday, scoring once and adding an assist in a 6-3 win at Knoxville. Back home on Saturday, It didn't take long for Sich to break the tie as the sixth-year pro scored his 47th of the season in the first period against the Ice Bears. Sich finished the night with a pair of goals and one assist as the FireAntz again beat Knoxville. Fayetteville's 5-1 win was witnessed by a Crown Coliseum crowd of 8,177, fourth-largest in SPHL history.

Sich, who was also named SPHL Player of the Week back in November, currently leads the league in goals (48), points (76) and game-winning goals (8).

Runners Up: Jesse Cole, Columbus (2 gp, 1g, 1 gwg), Mark Van Vliet, Knoxville (3 gp, 2a), Chris Ferazzoli, Mississippi (3 gp, 1g, 4a) and Joey Hughes, Pensacola (1 gp, 2g).
