Rainmen Roll Over Millrats
February 14, 2010 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Saint John Riptide News Release
The hot-handed Halifax Rainmen continue to roll over their PBL opponents this season, and remained undefeated at home, by knocking off the Manchester Millrats 104-83 Sunday at the Metro Centre. The win, at exactly mid-season, improves the second place Rainmen's record to 8-2 as the move a half-game up on the idle, Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry, 7-2. The undefeated Puerto Rico Capitanes, 9-0, continue to lead the PBL. Manchester drops to 3-8 and resides in seventh place.
Tony Bennett had a huge game for the Rainmen, racking up 32-points, 20 of which were scored in the second half. Eric Crookshank was strong off the boards, pulling down 19 rebounds, while adding 18 points. The Rainmen started fast in Sunday's game with 33 points in the first quarter and never looked back.
The Millrats who traveled through the night from Quebec City, looked weary as the hosts jumped on them from the outset. Manchester settled down a bit in the 2nd quarter, slicing an 18 point deficit to as close as 8 before the half. In the second half, the Millrats closed to within 7 before Halifax won going away in the final minutes.
For the second game in a row, Manchester was led by new center Charles Bronson with 20 points to go with 12 rebounds. Dwight Brewington added 16 points, while Eric Gilchrese and Julian Allen had 14 a piece.
Manchester hosts the Vermont Frost Heaves on Saturday and the 9-0 Puerto Rico Capitanes on Sunday February 20th and 21st at the Fieldhouse on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University.
