
IHL Awards Weekly Honors For Week Sixteen

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Bloomington left wing Craig Macdonald has been named the IHL Player of the Week, Port Huron left wing Mickael Bedard has been named the IHL Rookie of the Week and Quad City goaltender Jerad Kaufmann has been named the IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 31st, 2010.
Macdonald finished the week scoring one goal and dishing out five assists for six points. His lone goal this week sealed the win over Dayton Friday, adding the fourth goal in a 4-2 win over the Gems. Macdonald was a part of six of the PrairieThunder's 10 total goals scored last week. He recently had his nine-game point streak snapped in Sunday's 3-0 loss to Quad City. During the nine-game streak, Macdonald registered 14 points (five goals, nine assists). The 27-year-old Milton, Ontario native currently has 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points in 42 games played. He is ranked second in goals scored and is fifth in overall points in the IHL.
Other players nominated for the IHL Player of the Week include: Dayton forward Matt Auffrey, Flint left wing Rick Smith, Fort Wayne center Leo Thomas, Muskegon center Brian Bicek, Port Huron forward Brandon Kaleniecki and Quad City right wing Chris Lipsett.
Bedard remains on fire as a rookie, notching in two goals and had two assists during Week 16. He was plus-three in four games played, bringing his season total to a league-leading plus-27. All four of his points were tallied in Port Huron's 6-1 win over Fort Wayne Tuesday. He scored the first goal of the game for the Icehawks and added the fifth goal later in the contest. The 22-year-old Montreal, Quebec native currently leads all rookies in goals (26), assists (23), power play goals (9), shooting percentage (.205), plus/minus (plus-27) and is tied for first in power play assists (8) and game- winning goals (7).
Other players nominated for the IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Cole Ruwe, Dayton forward Jonathon Ornelas, Flint forward Matt Moffat, Fort Wayne forward Kaleigh Schrock, Muskegon defenseman Matt Krug and Quad City right wing Brandon Marino.
Kaufmann had another solid week between the pipes for the Mallards, earning his second weekly honor in less than two months with the team. He posted a 3-1-0-0 record, finishing the week allowing seven goals, having a 1.76 goals against average and a.945 save percentage. The rookie netminder earned his second shutout of the season, and second of his pro career, turning aside all 21 shots he faced from Bloomington Sunday. The 25-year-old Roseville, Minnesota native is currently is tied for first in save percentage with Port Huron's Larry Sterling with a.921 percentage. Kaufmann has started the in 17 of the Mallards last 26 games, including the last eight straight.
Other goaltenders nominated for the IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Sebastian Dahm, Dayton's Ryan Mior, Flint's Nick Niedert, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo and Port Huron's Adam Russo.
