
Kids First Hockey Program Introduces Kids To Ice Hockey Free

BILOXI, MS -- The Mississippi Surge have partnered with the Gulf Coast Youth Hockey Association, Trustmark National Bank, The Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Aaron's to start the Kids First Hockey Program, which will introduce children to the game of ice hockey with all equipment and ice time provided free of charge.
Forty children and their parents came out Tuesday evening for the Kids First Hockey Program orientation. The orientation included being shown their equipment by the Surge players and a tour of the facilities by Surge coach Steffon Walby. The next sessions for the Kids First Hockey Program are Tuesday, January 26 from 6:00-7:00 p.m., and Saturday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m. Members of the media are invited to attend. Surge players and coaches as well as coaches from the Gulf Coast Youth Hockey Association will take the kids on the ice for their first time.
The Kids First Hockey Program will include eight on-ice sessions for first-time hockey players. The program will also be a part of USA Hockey's Hockey Weekend Across America "Try Hockey For Free" event on Saturday, January 30. Hundreds of rinks across the country all offer free hockey at 11 a.m. local time to first-time hockey players as part of USA Hockey's annual Hockey Weekend Across America.
Rick Dedeaux, director of the Kids First Hockey program and partner in the Mississippi Surge said, "The Kids First Hockey Program is an extension of the national program, and is aimed at rebuilding our strong youth hockey program in post-Katrina Mississippi."
