Tucson Toros Release 2010 Schedule

Tucson, AZ - The 2010 schedule of the defending South Division Champion Tucson Toros has been finalized for the team's second season of play in the Golden Baseball League (GBL), beginning with Opening Night at Hi Corbett Field on May 19th against the Edmonton Capitals. The 2010 GBL season will feature 10 teams playing 90 games each, expanded from last year's 9 team 84 game schedule, comprising the largest slate of competition since the league's inception.

The GBL will play a split-season with 45 home and away games for each team, which is the longest season in league history, will all Toros home games taking place at 7:00 p.m. The regular season will open on May 19th and conclude on September 6th, followed by a five-game Division playoff pitting the first and second half champs of each Division with the winners advancing to a five-game GBL Championship Series.

In addition the expanded regular season schedule, fans will have even more baseball to see when Tucson will host the 2010 All-Star Celebration taking place from July 12th-14th, including the All-Star Game, Home Run Derby and Fan Fest.

"Not only will the 2010 season provide even more opportunities for baseball fans to catch a game through the expanded schedule and All-Star Celebration," said Toros General Manager Sean Smock, "but the return to National League rules will add intrigue to the game, with pinch hitters, double switches and pitchers batting for themselves. It promises to be another exciting summer of baseball at Hi Corbett."

The Toros will welcome a pair of new rivals in the GBL South Division with the Na Koa Ikaika Maui (nah-ko-uh ee-kai-kuh mow-ee - which means the Strong Warriors of Maui) playing at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku, Maui and the Cimarrones de Tijuana who will be playing at the 18,000 seat Calimax Stadium in Tijuana along with two returning divisional competitors - the Yuma Scorpions and the Orange County Flyers. The North Division will include the Calgary Vipers, Chico Outlaws, Edmonton Capitals, St. George Roadrunners and the Victoria Seals.

"Last season's division title and playoff run were great accomplishments in the team's first season," stated Toros Manager Tim Johnson. "We'll look to build upon that success and bring entertaining baseball to the Tucson community in 2010, while savoring the opportunity to compete in the only professional league with team's in Canada, Mexico, the continental United States and on the island on Maui in Hawaii."

Single game tickets will go on sale in early May, with a specific on sale day to be announced on a future date.
