Around the League
Great Eights
...Both the Green Bay Gamblers and Fargo Force have continued their winning ways as each is riding an eight-game winning streak, the second longest streak in the League this season. Fargo is unbeaten in regulation over their last 10 games (9-0-1). Eight wins over that span have been by a single goal. The Force have won six straight games on the road and are tied with the most USHL victories on the road this season (12). Scoring has been a key during their road success as they have scored more goals (74) than any other USHL team on visiting ice. The Gamblers have won all six of their home games during their eight-game winning streak and are tied for the League lead with 12 home victories. Over that stretch, Green Bay did not allowed more than two goals in any contest while outscoring the opposition 35-12. The Gamblers have a goal differential of +28 at home and have given up the second fewest goals (36) on home ice this season in the USHL.
Here Come the Hawks
...The New Year has been good for the Waterloo Black Hawks as they remain unbeaten in regulation (3-0-1) in 2010 and have earned points in each of their last five contests (4-0-1). The power play has been a bright spot converting 8-of-21 (38.1%) over their recent four-game homestand and the team leads the entire USHL in home power play (30.8%). Waterloo won three games in three nights over the weekend outscoring their opposition 14-5. The team equaled a season high in goals during the 8-3 win over Chicago on Saturday. Goaltender C.J. Motte earned his second shutout of the season when he stopped all 28 shots in the 3-0 win vs. Team USA on Friday. Seven different players recorded multi-point games in Saturday's win, including Brock Montpetit (3g, 1a) who registered a hat trick. J.T. Brown collected two goals, his third straight multi-point game, while Derek Arnold dished out four assists.
Hats Off
...In addition to the first USHL hat trick by Montpetit on Saturday, Green Bay Gamblers forward Robert Francis scored three goals in a span of 9:56 during the third period of Saturday's 6-1 victory over Team USA. Francis has scored nine goals over his past 10 games.
Ice Quartet
...The Indiana Ice made it four straight victories after completing a two-game sweep over Sioux City. Goaltender Casey DeSmith made all four starts and now has eight wins on the season. The Ice equaled a season high in goals during the 7-2 win on Saturday. Seven different skaters tallied a goal in the victory including defenseman Nick Bailen who scored his second goal in as many nights. He now has 21 points (7g, 14a) through 30 games, equaling his total through 58 games last season. Both Nic Dowd (2g, 6a) and Bryon Paulazzo (2g, 4a) are riding a five-game point streak.
Pair for Bucs
...Des Moines snapped a three-game winless streak with a pair of victories over the weekend. The club has scored five goals in each of its last three contests. Ryan Walters collected three assists on Saturday and has six assists over his past three games. He has a point in 13 of the last 14 games. H.T. Lenz scored three goals during the two wins and now has 15 on the season. J.P. Burkemper netted the game-winner in the 5-4 victory over Omaha on Saturday and has two of his three goals this season over the past three games. Jack Berger tallied a goal in both wins, extending his point streak to four games.
Tri-City Triumph
...A three-goal third period helped the Tri-City Storm earn a 4-3 victory over Sioux Falls on Saturday. Jaden Schwartz scored the game-winning goal with just 22 seconds remaining in the third period. He added a goal on Sunday to extend his point streak to 13 games, which is the second longest streak in the USHL this season. The first-year forward has tallied 24 points (7g, 17a) over that stretch. He has been held without a point in just five games this season.
Omaha Dozens
...The Omaha Lancers finished up their recent four-game road stretch with a 2-1-1 record. The team is now tied for League lead in both home (12) and road (12) wins. Each of the last five games for Omaha have been decided by a single goal. Dakota Eveland scored the game-winning goal in Friday's 5-4 win over Lincoln. Five of his eight goals this season have been game-winners, which ranks second in the USHL. Ryan Daugherty netted two goals in Saturday's 5-4 loss to Des Moines pushing his total to four goals over a three-game span.
Shootout Relief
...The Sioux Falls Stampede earned their first victory of the season that went past regulation when they defeated the Omaha Lancers 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday. Goaltender Clay Witt turned away all four attempts by the Lancers to give the Stampede their first win in seven shootout games this season. Dominic Zombo had a goal in regulation and the deciding goal in the shootout for Sioux Falls.

...Lincoln Stars forward Ben Lynch assisted on all four goals in the 5-4 loss to Omaha on Friday...Defenseman Kevin Lind has a goal in three straight games for the Chicago Steel...Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Andy Simpson recorded his first USHL goal on Saturday which proved to be the game-winner in the 3-2 win over Lincoln...Zach Lehrke netted the game-winner for Cedar Rapids in the 4-1 victory over Tri-City on Sunday. Three of his last five goals have been game-winners...Sioux City Musketeers forward Shane Sooth scored both goals in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout loss to Fargo, his first two USHL goals...Andrew Lamont scored both goals for Youngstown in the 3-2 loss to Fargo on Saturday.
Alumni News
...Former Des Moines Buccaneers forward John McCarthy made his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. He recorded one shot in 11:06 minutes of game action in the 4-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. McCarthy spent the 2004-05 season with the Buccaneers recording 18 points (8g, 10a) while playing in all 60 regular season games. Last April, he helped Boston University capture the 2009 NCAA Championship. The native of Boston was selected by the Sharks in the seventh round (202nd overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
