Columbus joins the Continental Indoor Football League as the Columbus Aces. They are set to take off on their inaugural season in March of 2010. "We are excited to bring indoor football back to the city of Columbus. With the rich tradition of football in this town, it only makes sense to play here," added Stanley Jackson co owner of the team. Michael Burtch and Stanley Jackson formed a partnership to bring this exciting form of football back to the capital city. "We appreciate the opportunity to bring a new team into the Columbus market and we are hopeful to attract the fans in this community who love the game of football," stated Mr. Burtch.
The Aces will play a ten week schedule with five home games played at the Ohio Expo Center starting in March. The Columbus Aces promise to deliver a quality product on and off the field. With experienced ownership, coaches and players, the Aces are set to have a great opening season. "In this economy, we are thrilled to offer an action packed, inexpensive, fun-filled event for the Central Ohio area," added the owners.
The Aces have named former Ohio State Buckeye great Pepe Pearson as their first head coach. After an illustrious college and professional playing career, Pepe has been coaching for several years at the high school, college and professional levels. Mr. Pearson led the Marion Mayhem to the Eastern Conference championship in the CIFL in 2009. He will be joined by other former Buckeyes both playing and coaching to be named in the upcoming weeks.
Further announcements are expected as well including personnel and player signings. The unveiling of the Aces logo along with the introduction of official team merchandise will also precede the season opener. "We look forward to making new fans, and to offering a quality product that everyone can come out and enjoy,'' commented the co-owners. "We look forward to seeing you there."
