FORT WAYNE, Ind. - TinCaps RHP Brad Brach was named Class-A's Best Reliever by MiLB.com.
He anchored the TinCaps bullpen by nailing down 33 of 34 regular-season save chances in 2009.
"It seemed like when Brad came into a game, it was as good as over,"Â TinCaps president Mike Nutter said. "He was a big part of the team's success in 2009."
Brach opened the 2009 season by retiring 33 of the first 35 batters he faced. He never lost steam, going 3-3 with 33 saves and a 1.27 ERA in the regular season, striking out 82 in 63.2 innings. Brach added three more saves in the TinCaps' playoff run to the Midwest League championship and recorded the final out in the title-clinching game in Burlington, Iowa.
The 23-year-old was a 42nd -round pick out of Monmouth University in 2008. After a highly
successful career as a starting pitcher in college, he converted to a reliever as a professional. In his two-year pro career, Brach is 4-4 with 37 saves in 39 opportunities and a 1.47 ERA.
Brach and the rest of the TinCaps' relief corps were dominant in 2009; the TinCaps posted an 80-0 record when leading going into the 8th inning.
