2010 Jaxx Coaching Staff Announced

JACKSON, TN. (December 14, 2009) - The 2010 version of the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx will be managed and coached by a set of new names. Three former big leaguers have been tabbed to lead the team. The Jaxx will be managed by former major league catcher, Tim Laker. Joining Laker as coach will be Andy Fox and pitching coach, Lance Painter.

Laker, 40, spent the last two seasons as the Catching Coordinator in the Cleveland Indians Player Development system. Prior to being named Catching Coordinator in 2008, he was the manager of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers during the 2007 season. Laker played professionally for 19 seasons, including parts of 11 seasons at the Major League level with the Montreal Expos (1992-93, 1995) Baltimore Orioles (1997), Tampa Bay Rays (1998, 2005), Pittsburgh Pirates (1998-99) and Cleveland Indians (2001, 2003-04, 2006). He was selected by the Montreal Expos in the 6th round of the 1988 draft and would make his Major League debut in 1992. Laker owns a career.226 average with 11 home runs and 79 RBI in 282 games in the Majors.

Fox, 38, spent the last three seasons as the Florida Marlins first base and infield coach. Prior to joining the Marlins, he spent the 2006 in the Texas Rangers organization as manager of the Clinton Lumberjacks. Fox spent nine seasons as an infielder in the Majors, compiling a.239 batting average with 30 home runs and 168 RBI in 776 games with the New York Yankees (1996-97), Arizona Diamondbacks (1998-2000), Florida Marlins (2000-2003), Montreal Expos (2004) and Texas Rangers (2004). He won a World Series as a member of the Marlins' 2003 World Series championship team and as a member of the Yankees' 1996 World Series championship team. A second-round draft pick in 1989 by the Yankees, Fox retired in 2005 after playing briefly in the Twins organization.

Painter, 42, will enter his fourth season in the Mariners organization. From 2006-2007, Painter was the pitching coach of the Single-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He spent the 2008 season as the pitching coach for the Single-A High Desert Mavericks and in 2009 Painter was the pitching coach for the Single-A Clinton LumberKings. Painter appeared in 314 major league games and posted a career ERA of 5.22 in his 10 major league seasons. Painter appeared with the Colorado Rockies (1993-1996), St. Louis Cardinals (1997-1999, 2003), Toronto Blue Jays (2000-2001) and Milwaukee Brewers (2001). Painter was drafted in the 25th round, in 1990 by the San Diego Padres. Also, Painter, who was born in Bedford England, was the pitching coach for the Great Brittan national baseball team during the 2005 European Baseball Championships.

Also, announced by the Mariners was that Matt Toth will return as the team's athletic trainer.

The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx are the Double-A Affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
