Surge lose to Bears

BILOXI, MS - Despite battling back with two third-period goals, the Knoxville Ice Bears held on to defeat the Mississippi Surge by the score of 3-2 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Friday evening.

Knoxville got on the board at 7:05 of the first when Paul Lynch fired from the point and Randy Johnston redirected the pcuk past Surge netminder Bill Zaniboni for a 1-0 lead. At 16:14, Frank Furdero beat Zaniboni high on the glove shot with a wrist shot from the high slot for a 2-0 Knoxville.

Donald Melnyk gave the Ice Bears a 3-0 lead when he became the beneficiary of a juicy rebound of a shot by Paul Lynch, hammering the loose puck past Zaniboni at 12:18 of the second frame.

The Surge are back home tomorrow night when they take on the Louisiana Ice Gators! Game time is 7:30 p.m., and the first 1,500 fans 14 & under will receive a camo youth cap courtesy of WLOX as the Surge host Support Our Troops Weekend.
