Statement From CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon
Published on November 17, 2009 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release
On behalf of our Board of Governors, our teams and most of all, our fans, I want to thank Ottawa City Council for taking an important step towards the return of the Canadian Football League, and the Grey Cup, to the national capital.
As I told Council, today's CFL is good for Ottawa, today's CFL wants Ottawa, and our prospective owners in Ottawa - Roger Greenberg, John Ruddy, Bill Shenkman and Jeff Hunt - are absolutely the right people to ensure the CFL succeeds in Ottawa.
We know there remains much work ahead. And we understand that Council's decision, while supportive of our game and our league, is about something bigger than a sport, even one as steeped in the history of Ottawa and Canada as Canadian football. This is about making a great city even stronger, and we are proud to be part of it, and look forward to working with the people of Ottawa to play a role in helping them achieve that goal.
