BILOXI, MS - Ryan Senft made 30 saves to earn the first shutout in team history and Matt Zultek scored his third power-play goal in two games as the Mississippi Surge defeated the Columbus Cottonmouths 1-0 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Friday night. After a scoreless first period, Columbus found itself in penalty trouble midway through the second period, handing Mississippi a two-man advantage as Jeff Martens and Tim Hockey were assessed minors just 18 seconds apart at 12:52 and 13:10 respectively. After getting the puck deep in the offensive zone, Mike Richard slid a pass out to Matt Zultek that he one-timed over the glove of Columbus goaltender Ian Vigier.
Columbus threatened several times in the third period, but Senft proved up to the task, turning away several chances, including two within the last minute of play.
The Surge's next home game is tomorrow night against the Fayetteville FireAntz at 7:30 p.m. Get your tickets by calling (228) 287-PUCK!
