BILOXI, MS -- The Mississippi Surge announced on Friday that they will wear special inaugural season jerseys for the 2009-10 home opener on Saturday, October 24 against the Louisiana Ice Gators that will be auctioned off to fans immediately following the game.

The jerseys are a modified version of the Surge's blue game jerseys that have the words "2009-10 Inaugural Season" embroidered around the crest.

"We're excited to wear special jerseys for the first-ever Surge home game," said head coach Steffon Walby. "These jerseys will give our fans a chance to get a unique piece of Surge history on opening night."

Prior to Saturday's game, the Surge will honor Patrick Rochon, who appeared in 500 regular season games with the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL between 1996 and 2004, in a special ceremony. The Montreal, Qc.-native ranks first in Sea Wolves history in games played (500) and assists (196), second in penalty minutes (842), third in points (227), and sixth in plus/minus rating (+35).

The Surge will celebrate opening night tomorrow, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. against the Louisiana Ice Gators. The first 2,000 fans ages 19 and above will receive a Surge cap courtesy of The People's Bank and CableOne, and the first 5,000 fans will receive magnet schedules from Z95.3 FM and Kicker 107.9 FM.
