Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that the team has signed rookies Justin Hofstetter, Sean Muncy and Matt Sweazey to the roster for the 2009-10 season.
Hofstetter, 23, played the last four seasons as a defenseman at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Bright, Ontario, native collected 14 points (4-10-14) in 36 games and added 38 penalty minutes (PIM). Two of his four goals came on the power play. His four-season total at RIT includes 42 points (14-28-42) and 164 PIM in 133 games.
Muncy, 24, is a Brown University graduate who played for the Bears from 2005-09. A forward, the 6-foot-0, 185-pound Chesterfield, Mo., native was known as one of the team's top penalty killers. Muncy also played junior hockey for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the USHL in 2003, helping to lead the team to a first place finish. In 2003-04 he was named the Most Improved Player with the RoughRiders. He then served as team captain for the Des Moines Buccaneers in 2004-05 before being traded to the Waterloo Blackhawks. Despite the trade, he finished with 26-33-59 numbers, for 10th overall in USHL scoring.
Sweazey, 25, is a Toronto native who played the last four seasons at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Last season, he led the team with 22 points (12-10-22) in 30 games while adding 26 PIM. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound center was a threat on the power play last season, bagging eight of his 12 goals on the man-advantage.
"Sean's skill level is very good and everyone raves about his character. I feel he will fit in really well with our team," Killer Bees head Coach Chris Brooks said. "Justin is a mobile defenseman with good skill and speed and Matt is a big guy that can add depth to our power play. I know they're all excited to be a part of what I am building."
The Killer Bees return to Dodge Arena ice this October for their seventh season in the CHL. Opening night is set for Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. vs. the Laredo Bucks. Season tickets are available now by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825).
