July 6, 2009 - NBA Development League (D-League)

NEW YORK - July 6, 2009 - The NBA Development League today announced the roster for the 2009 NBA D-League Select team, which will be competing in the 2009 NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports. The team, comprised of 10 players, will play a five-game schedule at the Cox Pavilion and Thomas and Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas.

"We're excited to bring a talented group of NBA D-League players to the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas," said Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the NBA D-League. "This year's NBA Summer League represents a tremendous opportunity for our young players to showcase their skills against top NBA prospects and on basketball's biggest summer stage."

The team, which features players from seven different NBA D-League teams, is headlined by the 2009 NBA D-League Rookie of the Year, Othyus Jeffers. Jeffers played in 48 regular season games for the Iowa Energy during the 2008-09 season and averaged 20.6 points, good for eighth-best in the NBA D-League, to go with 8.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals. Complementing Jeffers is Energy teammate Curtis Stinson, who played in all 50 of Iowa's regular-season games, averaging 16.1 points. His 8.4 assists and 2.2 steals were good for third- and fourth-best in the NBA D-League respectively.

The Select team's roster also features Walker Russell, Jr., who led the NBA D-League with 10.8 assists per game, while averaging a league third-best 2.3 steals for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. His teammate Coleman Collins, who averaged 11.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in 46 games last season, joins him on the roster.

Another pair of teammates, Rio Grande Valley's Marcus Hubbard, who averaged 8.9 points and 4.1 rebounds, and Kurt Looby, who averaged 6.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and an NBA D-League-leading 2.5 blocks, join the team.

Trey Johnson, who earned two GATORADE Call-Ups to the Cleveland Cavaliers while averaging 20.7 points and 4.5 assists; Gary Forbes who averaged 17.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists last season with the Sioux Fall Skyforce and Tulsa 66ers; Dakota's Will Frisby, who averaged 15.2 points and 7.7 rebounds in 41 games for the Wizards; and Jasper Johnson, who averaged 17.2 points and 8.2 rebounds in 49 games with the Los Angeles D-Fenders and Albuquerque Thunderbirds round out the roster.

Scott Roth, who led the Bakersfield Jam to the team's first postseason appearance on the back of a 26-24 overall record, was named head coach of the Select team. Joining him on the bench in Las Vegas is Dale Osbourne, who completed his second season as assistant coach of the Utah Flash and Jason Glover, who just completed his first season as the assistant coach of the Reno Bighorns. Michael Douglas of the Bighorns will serve as the team's athletic trainer.

The NBA D-League Select team begins their summer schedule when they face-off against the Minnesota Timberwolves at 4 p.m. ET at the Cox Pavilion.
