BILOXI, MS - Coast Hockey, LLC of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) selected Mike Richard with their first overall pick in the SPHL expansion draft on Wednesday.
Last season Richard played for the Twin City Cyclones of the SPHL racking up 29 goals and 43 assists while amassing 72 penalty minutes. Prior to joining the Cyclones, the 25-year-old forward played for the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL and spent four years with Elmira College of the NCAA where he contributed 126 points in 111 games.
In the second round, Coast Hockey selected John Halverson from the Richmond Renegades. Halverson split last season between Richmond and the Corpus Christi Icerays of the Central Hockey League. The defenseman from Lexington, MA played NCAA hockey for Trinity College in Hartford, CT.
Subsequent rounds brought defenseman Shane Wagner from the Twin City Cyclones, forward Justin Joy of the Richmond Renegades, goaltender Ryan Senft of Richmond and defenseman Ryan Bartle from Twin City.
