PEARL, Miss. - After falling in the first two contests of their five-game set at Trustmark Park, the BayBears rallied for a victory on Saturday night and swept a Memorial Day doubleheader on Monday by defeating the Mississippi Braves 1-0 and 6-2.

In the opener, Barry Enright (3-3) was strong for the BayBears (25-20) as he scattered just three singles over 5 1/3 innings. He wasn't given much offense, though, so when the Braves (20-24) put two men on in the sixth, Hector De La Cruz called Daniel Schlereth (S, 3) into the contest.

Schlereth bailed the BayBears out of the sixth with a fly out and strikeout before allowing two men of his own to reach base with two outs in the seventh. Schlereth proceeded to buckle down and freeze Gorkys Hernandez on a 1-2 curveball to preserve the victory.

Deunte Heath (2-3) surrendered six hits but only one unearned run in six frames. Heath's second-inning error on a pickoff attempt moved Orlando Mercado into scoring position, and he scored on a two-out infield single by Evan Frey.

The BayBears didn't waste any time scoring in the second contest as each of their first five hitters ripped base hits against Jeff Lyman (3-3). Chris Rahl's two-run single put the BayBears on top as Pedro Ciriaco and James Skelton scored. Rahl trotted home on a throwing error by catcher JC Boscan, and Mercado made it 4-0 when he came home on a passed ball by Boscan.

Mississippi answered with two in the bottom of the first as Brandon Hicks and Concepion Rodriguez belted consecutive deliveries from Cody Evans out of the park. Evans, however, would allow only other hit in three innings. Reid Mahon (1-0) followed Evans and was spectacular in three shutout innings. He even picked up a base hit and scored in the sixth on a single by Rahl. Mercado finished the scoring with a run-scoring hit to knock in Skelton.

The Mobile BayBears have produced nearly 100 players to the major leagues, and they return home on Tuesday night to play the Jacksonville Suns at 7:05 p.m. with Matt Torra (1-5, 5.36) in line for the start. For Hank Aaron Stadium tickets, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
